For the Love of Blogging » The Jankowski Family Blog

Masthead header
  • For the Love of Blogging began many years ago as the space for a young (and slightly naive) design school graduate. Since that time, I've grown a bit wiser and (hopefully) matured in my design perspective. So, my goals for this blog have evolved, and now I look forward to using this space as a way of sharing my experiences with Braizen, motherhood, and as a Jedi Master of design.

  • That's me: mom, greatest wife ever, designer, business owner, and the single largest contributer to Diet Mountain Dew's vast soda fortune. It's hard to believe that my journey into design and branding began nearly a decade ago with this blog and a drive to create dynamic brands for boutique photographers in the Atlanta area. Today, I'm the founder of Braizen, a small business branding design firm, and I dabble in a handful of other design-centered projects. This is my life, thanks for reading. Look for me on DribbbleFacebook, Twitter, Pinterest & Instagram or head over to Opieh Studios to see all works in progress.

  • You read right – our's son's name is Opie. Well, his really name is Oliver Paul, but everyone calls him Opie. He's a real cool kid who loves to draw, makes messes, get dirty and work on cars with his Dad. He knows no strangers even at 4 years old and we expect he'll never be the shy kid in class. He is known for his many expressions and the conversations he spurs are off-the-wall-hilarious. He has an imaginary friend from California named Jack who is six and can drive. He's not really into social networking yet, but stay tuned. I am sure he'll add a twitter app to his iPad shortly.

  • Aside from being incredibly handsome, my husband Paul is one of the most intelligent people I have ever known. I love him for his nerdiness, mostly because it means he can fix just about anything that goes wrong on the homefront. He's a brilliant engineer, loving father, and always manages to keep me interested, no matter the subject. For all of his awesomeness, I let him maintain a significant workshop in the garage, where he tinkers on his cars, motorcycles, and top secret projects with which I'm certain he will one day rule the world.

It has to be said.

The design process just doesn’t work very well if you expect me to work FOR you. Branding, marketing and design can only happen if you work WITH me by giving me a solid foundation of what you want, understanding how I work, and giving me constructive feedback.

Mike + Pam

This vintage inspired island wedding was one of the most gorgeous events I’ve ever been to! I’ve been trying to blog about this wedding for over a week now, but I had the hardest time narrowing down images…. There were so many sweet moments and beautiful details. I was blessed to have the help of a good friend and client, Tiffiney Addis. Not to mention my sweet hubby who came along to help us. And yes – we handed him and camera and he went for it! I couldn’t have done it without them. The images below are a mix from all of us. And just so you know – this was my first time as the primary shooter. Anyone think I should continue? The wedding and the reception were held at The Ribault Club on Fort George Island in Florida.

Makeup at The Ritz

Hair at Magna’s in downtown Fernandina Beach. Awww… Pam’s Mom was so cute as she pinned Pam’s veil.

I just love the look on Pam’s face as she arrived at The Ribault Club to get ready. Isn’t laughter wonderful?

OMG! The flowers were beyond gorgeous! I think the Peony is my new favorite flower!! Email me – if you want the name of the Oh-So talented florist.

Pam’s something old was her Grandmothers ring.

Mike and Pam chose to see each other before the ceremony so they’d have more time with their guests and we’d have more time to get all the images we wanted. We still wanted to make that moment a special one so we arranged the whole thing. I was beyond honored to be a part of that moment. Check it out below. Mike had tears in his eyes… it was beautiful! Well, he could have had something in his eye, but I doubt it. Haha!

First Glance… Hers

First Glance… His

That is one happy dude!

Right after Mike and Pam were pronounced… birds flew overhead. If that’s not a sign that this is meant to be… I just don’t know what is. Pam’s bridesmaids swore she planned this. She didn’t.

You can’t tell it was cold in these images. The sky was beautiful. The tide was high. It’s was gorgeous.

The Getaway… the guests threw lavender… it smelled so sweet!

The Getaway Car… a Rolls Royce.

Jodi - There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that you would pull this off without a hitch, and it’s evident that you did. Good stuff, Ash! You did a wonderful job capturing this couple and their special day!

December 3, 2008 - 10:11 am

Dina Holland - Um, yes please! These images are gorgeous, nice job. And while I to am OBSESSED with the peony, in that shot I think I’m even more obsessed with that amazing caplet/bolero. Where is it from, I looooove it!

December 3, 2008 - 11:03 am

Tiffiney - Ash! Of course I want you to keep booking…b/c I want to keep second shooting! Ha! I think we make a great team. Great job, they’re all so beautiful!

December 5, 2008 - 5:32 pm

Pam - YAY! They are gorgeous, Ashley! Thank you, thank you for all of your hard work and TALENT!

December 5, 2008 - 5:34 pm

Pam - Dina, thank you. The caplet was a last minute purchase made the week before at my final dress fitting. It is a Jenny Packham design and I bought it at Kelly’s Closet in Chandler Park.

Designer Babies

During the break I got to hang one of my best friends and fellow designer, Eva Talley. And we finally got to introduce our boys. Check out our Designer Babies – Danny and Opie. If I have to guess I’d say these two might have a few creative bones growing in their bodies somewhere… I can’t wait to see where!

Eva said the funniest thing when she met Opie. She said, “He really is JUST like his pictures!”. He really is too – full of personality and has countless expressions. I think the kid has more active muscles in his face than an adult. I think Opie may just end up with my brown eyes… crossing fingers and toes.

I think we’re in trouble… Opie learned a new trick on Eva’s visit. Needless to say – we dropped his mattress down a few notches.

Opie’s First 1st Thanksgiving

He loved it so much he couldn’t get enough! It seems now he’s banned anything but blended table food. And don’t ya just love his little bib! Opie’s Great Gran found it at Williams Sonoma.

A Typical Opie Expression. Man – he cracks us up!

My Guys…

I’ll give you 3 guesses to figure out where Opie gets all those faces.

Gotta love his Old Man Sweater! He HAD the cutest converse high tops on… but I’m sad to say… they didn’t last.

Now… we’re off to Opie’s Second 1st Thanksgiving… More images to come.

Holiday Schedule + Updates

The season is upon us. I’m so excited! I love the holidays!! Just wanted to update my schedule and hours of operation for the holiday season…. cause I have a family and need to take time off just like everyone else. Plus it’s good to give my right brain a break every now and then… it’s a good thing in the over all scheme… for you… the clients. Trust me. Please update your calendars and keep in mind – we might not have access to email or phone messages and we will be truly taking a holiday. We will be returning all phone calls and emails during business hours.

We will be closed:

  • November 26th-30th
  • December 20th-26th
  • December 31st-January 2nd
We are working hard to finish all 2008 projects and am already booked through February 2009 for design work. We are accepting portrait commissions for 2009 as well, but will only be booking 1 session per month. January is already booked. We are also accepting wedding commissions for 2009 as well and will only be booking 1 wedding per quarter. We we also be unfolding a new price structure for portraits in 2009… one that our clients are really gonna love.
Our new communication days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can call us on the other days but we might be too busy working so leave us a message and we’ll call you back. If you call on a holiday – we’re probably out stuffing our faces with good food… so you should go stuff yours too! Ha!

WE vs ME
Notice the use of  a new pronoun. More on that coming soon. Yeah – I am dangling a carrot! Ha! Be patient and wait until next week. Hehe.

Go get ready for turkey day! Eat. Shop. Be Merry.
